Mastering the musical skills of the 21st century

The Summer, 2008 SAISD Workshop

Brief Course Description:

Development of essential knowledge and skills related to contemporary computer based technologies in music production. Topics include:

1) MIDI and audio loop sequencing.
2) Sound and tonal synthesis techniques.
3) Digital audio.
4) Desktop multitrack music production and editing.
5) Basic live recording,
6) Current music distribution methods.
7) Survey of emerging hardware and software technologies.


In each of the above topic areas concept acquisition, operational skills, and evaluative judgment receive equal attention. Each semester students have input concerning the relative balance of these topics and the inclusion of other topics. The course is open to students in all disciplines at UTSA

Neither music nor computer experience is assumed. The course uses UTSA’s Macintosh computers, hardware, and software located in the music computer lab; however, students are encouraged to use personal equipment and software if they can adequately complete class projects and tests.
