Catalog Description:
Students learn to digitize sound and incorporate it into multimedia titles for various delivery systems. Emphasis is on compression issues, sampling, synchronizing, and resource management.

Extended Description:
The content of this course is designed primarily for students who will be employed as multimedia authors, web page designers, AV specialists, or learning center technology coordinators for schools, businesses, and other similar institutions. Conceptual understanding and hands-on experience are stressed equally. The environment is student centered and collaborative.

Students are required to purchase their own audio supplies (Zip disks, CD's, etc.)
PC-Formatted 100 Meg Zip (you may substitute CD-ROM if you prefer)
3 Ring binder for numerous handouts and other materials

Grading:
All projects, quizzes, and exams receive equal credit. See below for tentative list of graded output.

All projects, quizzes and exams must be completed and handed in by the due date to receive full credit
Grade will be lowered by 10 points if late up to 1 class period.
Grade will be lowered by 20 points if late between 1 & 2 class periods.
A student will be credited with a 0 for a project that is late more than 2 class periods.

Attendance Policy:
Classes can not be made up and you will be dropped from the class if you have 3 absences.
10 - 30 minutes arriving late or leaving early = 1/2 absence.
More than 30 minutes arriving late or leaving early = 1 absence.
Please inform the instructor, preferably before class, if an absence in unavoidable.

SCANS:
The Multimedia Specialist curriculum was designed to prepare students for the broad range of skills they will need in the work environment such as technical skills, problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills. The SCANS competencies (Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills) are a national standard that address the demands of the workplace.
