Catalogue Description:
Student Survey the theories, elements, and hardware/software components of multimedia. Topics include digital image editing, digital sound and video editing, animation, web page development, and interactive presentations. Emphasis is on conceptualizing and producing effective multimedia.

Course Goals:
Upon completing this course, students will have the fundamental skills to create multimedia projects that include vector and raster graphics, motion, sound and interactivity. This course provides the basic multimedia development skill necessary to proceed successfully with additional multimedia courses in the NVC sequence. The course objectives are as follows:

1. Students will create and edit digital graphics portfolio using Adobe Photoshop.
2. Students will create vector graphics portfolio using Adobe Illustrator.
3. Students will create basic web pages using Dreamweaver.
4. Students will create a web-page related pamphlet with InDesign.
5. Students will create a short digital movie using Adobe Premiere, with all original sound.
6. Students will discuss the difference and benefits of various multimedia file formats.
7. Students will use help file and various resources to develop their multimedia skills.
8. Students will be expected to challenge their own skill level.

Students will be provided with the criteria for each objective, where applicable, prior to beginning the
appropriate section in the course.

Course Requirements:
1. Students are expected to attend course regularly.
2. Students will be required to complete all assignments as described by or agreed upon with the instructor.

Books and Supplies:
No books are required for this class, however Robin Williams' "The Non-Designer's Design Book 2nd edition" is highly recommended and will be referenced during the course.

Students are required to have a flash drive or CDR(W)s to store and transfer work
Students may be required to provide a mini dv tape.
Headphones are recommended.

Skill Exercises 65%
Quizzes 35%

Late Assignment:
Due to the nature of multimedia development, learning to meet deadlines is critical. Therefore, late projects will be penalized 10% per 24 hours after their deadline, and will not be accepted more then one week after the due date. Late final projects will not be accepted.

Entry Level Skills:
Students are expected to have basic computer skill before enrolling in this class. These skills include but are not limited to:
1. Basic Microsoft Windows interface navigation.
2. Use of Microsoft Word.
3. Saving files in multiple locations.
4. Opening and closing files and programs.
5. Mouse control (point, click, drag....)

Classroom Etiquette:
Please show respect to your fellow classmates and instructor at all times. No food drink or tobacco products of any kind in the classroom. No cell phone use in the classroom during class. Do not download or install any unauthorized files/programs on classroom computers.

Academic Integrity:
Northwest Vista College is committed to providing you an excellent education. We believe true learning is only possible in an environment of academic integrity. You are expected to do your own work, unless group work is specified by your professor. You are also expected to give proper credit when you directly or indirectly use the work of others. Three-peat Tuition Costs:
Due to state legislation passed this Spring, ACCD will no longer be reimbursed by the state for courses taken by students who have attempted the same course two or more times previously. Therefore, the tuition for such a "three- peat" course will be $160 per credit hour as of the Fall 2005 Semester.
