Wind Synth Setup

EXPLODING THE WIND PLAYER’S PALETTE WITH TECHNOLOGY

Why are you still playing an instrument that’s limited to one sound? This informative and entertaining presentation demonstrates new technologies that allow wind players to explore musical concepts using any instrument timbre or performance characteristic they want. Brass, woodwinds, percussion, strings--futuristic or extinct--sounds and techniques that were once exclusive to one instrument or historical period can now be realized by any computer-literate wind musician. The live perfornance demonstrations and digital accompaniments are mind-blowing!

"Dr. Sebald's careful research and patient, musical programming of digital sounds to illustrate the historical evolution of the clarinet and related wind instruments, is a wonderful example of the power of present-day MIDI and digital sampling harnessed for music instruction. Close your eyes and the Yamaha WX-5 wind controller becomes a 2-key clarinet in D playing Molter or a classic basset clarinet playing Mozart's clarinet concerto as he intended it. "

David Williams, Professor Emeritus, Illinois State University
co-author "Experiencing Music Technology"
