Roxanne Vickers

I am originally from San Antonio, Texas where I attended John Marshall High School which was under the direction of James Miculka and Ray Meza.  I attended Southwest Texas State University where I received my Bachelor's Degree in music education and studied under John C. Stansberry, Doug Skinner, Keith Winking, James Polk, and John Mills.  While at SWT, I was a member of the Wind Ensemble, which performed at the annual Texas Music Educators Association and College Band Directors Association conventions as well as the Music Educators National Conference.  I was also a member of the SWT Jazz Band and performed at the Kentucky Jazz Festival, Notre Dame Jazz Festival, and traveled to Europe to perform at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Throughout my college career I  was also a member of the Sea World Jazz Ensemble, and also performed in big bands with John Mills, James Polk, Doug Skinner, and KeithWinking. I began my teaching career working for Austin ISD, where I remained for two years.  Following this experience, I began working for Lockhart ISD, where I remained for twelve years.  I was the Lockhart ISD Director of Bands and the Lockhart High School Head Band Director. During my status as head director, the Lockhart Lion Band received several Sweepstakes Trophies. I am currently the head director for Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas. In the first year teaching for SAISD the Jefferson band achieved a Sweepstakes Trophy with straight ones across the board. I am extremely proud of my new family at Jefferson and am excited for the future accomplishments they will achieve.
